Word of Welcome from UCL SfGH President 18-19

Updated: Sep 2, 2020

Welcome to UCL and to Students for Global Health (SfGH)!

I’m Fatima, a third year medical student and the 2018/2019 President. I am excited to see where this year takes us, and look forward to meeting many of you at our events this year!

This society at UCL is your local branch of Students for Global Health (SfGH) - the UK's largest network of students that campaigns on global health and international development issues. Our vision is a “fair and just world in which equity in health is a reality for all”. We tackle a range of global and local health inequalities through education, advocacy and community action. We believe that the students of today are critical to bringing about an equitable and healthy world of tomorrow.

There are lots of opportunities for getting involved with Global Health and our society, so look out for our Facebook page updates and weekly mailing list! As a UCL student, you can join SfGH as a society member, which allows you to access all our events throughout the year.

Or if you would like to get involved further, you can join a subcommittee to participate in the planning and running of events. We have a few campaigns currently recruiting subcommittees, so definitely get in touch if you’re interested. Also, if there’s a certain issue you’re passionate about, we’d be more than happy to help you run an event or set up your own campaign!

This first term is going to be packed with events, from our Welcome Social where you’ll meet the committee and get to know a little more about what our society does; to a series of lectures, conferences and workshops, including a short course coming up on migration and health.

Please don’t hesitate to drop us an email at ucl@studentsforglobalhealth.org, we’d love to hear from you! Looking forward to seeing you at the Welcome Social next Tuesday.
